It is my pleasure to welcome all our new and returning students to Washington State University and the School of the Environment. Our students, faculty, and staff all share many of the same values as they relate to our dramatically changing human and natural world. In the School of the Environment you will find community around these shared values that includes a desire to work and become leaders in understanding the complexities of the natural word, and finding and implementing proactive, innovative, and collaborative solutions to our shared challenges that cross disciplinary, social, ecological, and jurisdictional boundaries.
We strive to provide a unique and rewarding experience to our students by providing a nurturing environment that builds community and sense of belonging through advising, lab, field, and research experience, student clubs, school wide social events, and more. We also strive to provide the support needed for students to be successful at WSU and build the technical, social, and professional skills needed for careers in Geology and Earth Sciences, Forest Ecology and Management, Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Sciences, and Environmental and Ecosystem Sciences.
Our degree programs are flexible and interdisciplinary with the ability to be tailored to meet studentsā specific career and educational goals and they provide many opportunities for student to gain hands-on lab and field experience in classes, through undergraduate research, study abroad programs and more that will make them excellent candidates for many career options in non-governmental organizations, government agencies, private industry, and more.
I look forward to seeing all our returning students and meeting our incoming first year and transfer students.
