Biography
Professor Matt Carroll is a Natural Resources Sociologist and a forester. His career-long interest is in the relationships between people who live in communities adjacent to wildlands (forests, rangelands etc.) and the lands themselves and the many natural resources and attributes associated with such lands. Over the last two decades, his interests have focused largely on wildfire and the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) . Specifically his research is focused on how WUI community residents in the US West can become better adapted to the risks inherent in the current era of “megafires”. He has also conducted work in Ireland around issues related to afforestation and its impacts on local populations and more recently in documenting the burning practices of Irish upland farmers.
