Background: Undergraduate student in Earth & Environmental Sci, BS – Wildlife Ecol & Conservation

Hello everyone! My name is Aaron, I’m a junior/transfer student at WSU and this will be my second semester of classes on campus. During the fall semester, Dr. Bill asked if I would be willing to help students in the spring and I said yes, so I am here with the sole purpose to help you!

Some previous ecological work I’ve done was in the summer of 2021 with the Raptor Research Center at Boise State University, I studied Burrowing Owl nest site production based on land cover features (grass vs sagebrush vs agriculture), and worked with other Raptor species as well. This experience has driven my interest in population and ecological studies, and I hope to produce similar work in the future. I would highly encourage you to look into REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) programs to find a “spark” to your interests if you haven’t found one just yet.

A brief background about myself, after I graduated high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, and almost all of that time was spent overseas in Asia, Pakistan, and Ukraine. When I left the Marines, I attended North Seattle College for two years before transferring here to WSU. I enjoy hiking/backpacking, weightlifting, and video/tabletop games. Outside of class, you’ll most likely find me at the SRC (student recreation center), feel free to stop and say hi, especially if you have a question about class! I am also a member of the Forestry, Fire, and Raptor clubs.

This class shows the overall big picture of ecology, while delving into some of the nitty gritty details involving geology, climate, populations, etc.
