Hey y’all, my name is Darius, I’m currently a senior majoring in Environmental Science and I’m actually about to graduate at the end of the semester! So I’m glad I can help y’all get an excellent grade in SoE 300 and also a fun experience. After I graduate, I’m looking forward to working somewhere on the west side of the state on projects pertaining to aquatic ecology or water resources. This past summer, I attended an internship with CICOES and UW at the USGS Western Fisheries Research Center in Seattle. It was an awesome experience where I studied the effects of artificial light at night (ALAN) on juvenile salmon predation in Lake Washington. If you’re interested in how I got my internship or my project don’t be afraid to ask!  

A little bit about myself, I grew up in a military family so I grew up all over the country but mostly on the east coast. I finished up high school in Washington and left for WSU, since then I’ve been living in Washington while the rest of my family moved back to the southeast. I love being outdoors (especially on the water), hanging out with my friends, online gaming, and going to new places. Outside of class, you’ll most likely find me either at Ferdinand’s working the front or jamming to music on campus, feel free to say hi! In terms of my environmental interests, I love the ocean and water so I want to focus my career on issues in those bodies; I also enjoy working in the field doing the rough and dirty work but I’m not shy to getting in the lab or sitting at my desk doing research; and lastly, I would love to further my education in the future with a master’s degree and eventually a doctorate’s degree but those are both far into the future goals.  

This class is an amazing opportunity to learn many skills within ecology but also within the professional realm. I still use the knowledge I learned in SoE 300 in many of my essays for other classes till now.
