Backers of a proposed ski Slope at Kamiak Butte State Park are continuing their efforts toward early approval of the program. Plans call for clearing a strip of land 300 feet wide by about 1500 feet long on the north side of the Butte (outlined in photo above).

Many good ideas came out of a planning meeting here last Thursday night when delegates from surrounding towns came to Palouse to discuss ways and means of promoting ski facilities at Kamiak State Park.

Chamber plans area meeting on Ski Interest

The Palouse Chamber of Commerce thinks that Kamiak Park has great possibilities as a ski center and are starting plans to interest others in the same idea. At their meeting Wednesday, the chamber made plans to hold a special meeting here on Thursday night, Feb. 14th, with a special invitation being extended to delegates from other service groups in surrounding areas.

No Water Yet Kamiak Park – Don’t you believe it!

Contrary to reports, there is still no water available at Kamiak Park picnic and recreation grounds. Earl Snyder of the Snyder Electric Co. at Washtucna, who has the contract for installing the water pump and water lines was unable to complete the job as scheduled due to the fact that considerable refuse had been dumped down the well drilled at the park.

Kamiak State Park To Be Popular Picnic Spot When Fully Developed

Increasing in popularity is Kamiak Butte State Park, just a few miles from Palouse, which is scheduled for considerable more in the way of improvements and accommodations for recreationists. Tables have been placed for the use of picnickers, and of course, have been used by many persons after they were installed in June. The view from the picnic area slope and above is exceptional.

Kamiac Butte Road Discussed by Chamber

Members of the Palouse chamber of commerce in meeting Wednesday heard a discussion of possible routes for a road to make available a recreation area on Kamiac Butte. R. Moffat and J. B. West, members of the committee, led the discussion. Mr. Moffat had on display an enlarged aerial photo of the area, and outlined the plausible routes for a road as desired by the landowners in the area.

Install Water System at Kamiak State Park

Earl Snyder of the Snyder Electric Co. at Washtucna was here last weekend and said he was installing a water pump at Kamiak Butte state park. Mr. Snyder said the pump would be of the submersible type, with a water line to be installed thru the present picnic area with several taps. Kamiak Park has had heavy use throughout the summer with a number of group picnics as well as individual families, taking advantage of the park facilities.
